Project Healing Waters Chosen As Winner Of Toyota Halftime Handoff

As you know, we here at MVF love Project Healing Waters.

What they do for injured veterans is of the utmost importance, and it shows the power of something as simple as fly fishing to help make someone’s life better.

Yesterday, it was announced that PHWFF would be the recipient of the Toyota Halftime Handoff, and with that, a $10,000 award to continue doing what they are doing.

Congrats to PHWFF, and be sure to check out their site for more, and to find out how you can help.

Toccoa River Fishing Report June 2011

Toccoa River Red Eye Bass 225x300The Toccoa River is often called Georgia’s best trout river. I don’t know if this is entirely true, but I have had some great success, and great trips on this river.

One of the things I like about this river is the diversity of the water. I have had equal success on the headwaters, and the tailwaters. I have also taken many visiting anglers to this river, and have found it a great place to teach beginners, and give more advanced anglers the shot at some big fish. [Read more...]

Small Stream Fishing On Wildcat Creek

Wildcat Creek Georgia 225x300On the recent Memorial Day Holiday, I decided to get out and do some fishing. I figured the big rivers were a bad choice—tubers, swimmers, and kayakers would be out in force. I was certainly right about that, as every bridge over a river revealed a ton of people enjoying the water.

On this holiday, as I do with most holidays, I decided I needed to get out…way out. WMA’s, or Wildlife Management Areas are typically my holiday fishing spot of choice. Most of the time, they are difficult to access, very remote, and not very well known. [Read more...]

Chattahoochee River Fishing Report April 2011

Chattahoochee River 300x225I should have known this little trip was doomed from the start. In my hurry to get to the river, I must have been stuck behind every school bus in North Georgia. Despite repeated pleas to the fishing gods, the school bus schedule seemed to coincide perfectly with mine. [Read more...]

Coho Salmon Starting To Return To California’s Russian River

coho salmon 300x211In the world of fly fishing, few things are as sacred as the mighty salmon. As a game fish, there are few things that rival it on a fly line.

Unfortunately, these are fish that are highly susceptible to environment changes. [Read more...]
